Tyz Law Group’s Fourth Annual Retreat at Cavallo Point

Tyz Law Group, a 100 percent virtual/remote firm since inception in 2018, came together in January at our annual retreat at Cavallo Point Lodge in Sausalito. At this in-person, the team took a step back to collaborate in creative ways and collectively define the firm’s strategic vision for 2024 and beyond.

The focus for the retreat was effective collaboration, kicking off with a lively discussion facilitated by professional coach Cheri Vaillancour based on learnings from our individual and team Hogan Assessments. This personality assessment tool provided insight into individuals' unique talents and at the team level helped identify opportunities to leverage those talents and facilitate team performance.  Learning about individuals’ different motivators uncovered how the team can better bring out the best in each other.

Next was a dynamic group improv session with Jo Feldman on Friday afternoon.  Jo led the team through various exercises including a memorable one word per person storytelling, revealing creativity and hilarity.  Each exercise highlighted different qualities and quirks, bringing the team closer together.

Finally, after a day enjoying hikes and spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay on Saturday, the retreat wrapped up with a cooking class and family-style meal hosted by Chef Tim Grabble.  Menu highlights were the roasted cauliflower salad with lemon-tahini dressing and the seared flatiron steak topped with red onion balsamic jam.

When he founded Tyz Law Group, Ryan Tyz envisioned a place where the entire team “has one mission to compete to win for our clients, while giving the team the ability to work remote (even before the pandemic).  The annual retreat brings the team together in person which is important for team building and to level set on our unified mission.”

Erin Jones, attorney and engineer, said the annual retreat is part of the secret sauce that makes the team excel: “What sets Tyz Law Group apart from other firms that I've worked at is a feeling of being on a strong team, understanding my role in that team and the value I add to the team. We really feel like we're all in this together. We work together as a group better than any place I've ever been!”
